Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health

The WHO Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health, discussed at the WHO Executive Board (19-24 January 2004), was drawn up with the help of member states, nutritional experts and the food industry.

The WHF supported the Global Strategy by two statements read during the session.

Statement 2

The US criticism, aimed at heading off this initiative, insisted that further discussions would be needed before a final plan could be approved (see articles below)

The WHO delayed deciding whether to approve the plan until the end of February to allow for changes to the text.

A draft resolution, amended by a drafting group during the 113th session was adopted by the Executive Board.

The Global Strategy was presented to the World Health Assembly in May (17-22 May 2004) for final approval. See the new draft.
