Global Alliance on Physical Activity

Launched in 2006, the Global Alliance on Physical Activity (GAPA) was established to provide coordination, integration and a strategic orientation to countries’ and NGOs' activities addressing the issue of physical activity. It was established by the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with the collaboration of other organizations, among them the World Heart Federation. GAPA work is done through a small steering group and a set of working groups addressing identified areas of need.

World Heart Federation involvement in GAPA

As an advocate of putting cardiovascular disease and its risk factors on the global health agenda, the World Heart Federation strongly support initiatives addressing the issue of physical activity in relation to chronic diseases. The World Heart Federation is a founding member of GAPA and a member of its steering group.
