As a specialized United Nations agency, UNESCO promotes international cooperation among its Member States in the fields of education, science, culture and communication. It functions as a laboratory of ideas and a standard-setter to forge universal agreements on emerging ethical issues. The Organization also disseminates and shares information and knowledge relevant to its areas of activity.
About the World Heart Federation partnership with UNESCO
Collaboration between the World Heart Federation and UNESCO began in 1996, when the World Heart Federation was still known as the International Society and Federation of Cardiology. The two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding/font> (MOU) instigating ongoing cooperation on various projects such as the prevention of rheumatic fever and heart disease, Chagas' disease (link) and risk factors in school-age children in developing countries (link).
In addition, UNESCO also supports World Heart Day. In the past, UNESCO has distributed World Heart Day materials to its 170 offices worldwide and supplied leaflets to the 7300 schools in its Associated School Project.
