General information: Melbourne and Australia

Melbourne - the second most populous city in Australia - is a welcoming and cosmopolitan city on the south-east coast of Australia. As one of the Southern hemisphere's most developed health providers, Melbourne is a beacon of medical research and innovation. Australia and Melbourne also play a leading role in delivering cardiology services throughout Australasia; whether this is part of research through the University of Melbourne or services through one of the many teaching hospitals, cardiology has become a byword for expertise in Australia. Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) and tobacco cessation are just two areas where Australia leads the international health community.

Melbourne Airport is the gateway to southern Australia with an average of 635 international flights operating every week to and from major destinations. 27 international carriers currently operate direct services to Melbourne.

All travellers to Australia, other than Australian and New Zealand citizens, are required to obtain a Visa to travel to Australia. The Business Visa allows people attending conferences and meetings in Australia to make a short visit of up to three months. If the country your passport represents has ETA Buisness access, you can obtain it very easily at the same time as you book your flights. The average processing time for visa can be accessed here.
