Membership categories

The World Heart Federation is a nongovernmental organization committed to uniting its members and leads the global fight against heart disease and stroke, with a focus on low-and middle-income countries.

The World Heart Federation is the world's only global body dedicated to leading the fight against heart disease and stroke. We do this via a united community of almost 200 member organizations that bring together the strength of medical societies and heart foundations, from more than 100 countries.

Continental member organizations

  • A Continental Member is a continental society or foundation which is a group of societies or foundations from one of the following continental groupings of countries comprising Europe, North/Central and South America and the Caribbean, Africa and Asia Pacific.
  • Continental members have 1 vote and may send one representative to the General Assembly.

National member organizations

  • National cardiac society or a national heart foundation with purposes similar to and compatible with the aims of the Federation.
  • There will be only one national cardiac society and one national heart foundation member from each country.
  • National members have 1 vote and may send one representative to the General Assembly.

Associate National member organizations

  • National society or foundation devoted to aspects of the prevention and control of heart disease and stroke or with aims similar to those of the World Heart Federation.
  • Associate National Members may attend the General Assembly and have no voting rights.

Associate International member organizations

  • International, independent incorporated organization active in some aspect of the prevention and control of heart disease and stroke or other international organizations with aims similar to those of the World Heart Federation
  • Associate International Members may attend the General Assembly and have no voting rights.

Associate Individual Members

  • As an international federation, we are composed of member national societies and foundations and as such we do not accept individual membership requests except from countries where conditions render membership in a national society or foundation impossible.
  • Associate Individual Members may attend the General Assembly and have no voting rights.
