World Heart Federation

The World Heart Federation strategy is a result of a thorough review involving members, partners, our Board and the secretariat. We looked again at our vision, mission, and values – all the elements that are important to delivering our strategy and goals as a global health body.

While there are some changes to elements of the strategy, our vision remains constant – for people all over the world to have a longer and better life through the prevention and control of heart disease and stroke.

We will maintain our focus on improving heart health in low- and middle-income countries. Equally important, we will work hard to place our members – heart foundations and societies of cardiology from around the world – right at the centre of our work, and this is reflected in our revised mission statement: “The World Heart Federation unites its members and leads the global fight against heart disease and stroke, with a focus on low- and middle-income countries”.

We believe that by working together, we can reduce the burden of heart disease and stroke, and help people all over the world to lead longer and better lives. We have also agreed on a specific set of objectives and actions, which will help us to drive change.

Over the next five years, the World Heart Federation will focus on achieving these six goals:

Each of these goals is discussed in more detail elsewhere in this special issue of Heart Beat. We look forward to working with you to achieve them – and to strengthen our global movement to fight heart disease and stroke.
