As an advocate of putting cardiovascular disease and its risk factors on the global health agenda, the World Heart Federation strongly supports initiatives addressing obesity, healthy diet and physical activity.

The WHO Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health

The World Heart Federation supports the WHO Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health. The initiative emphasizes the need to limit the intake of certain fats, sugars and salt, and increase consumption of fruits and vegetables and levels of physical activity.

The Global Alliance on Physical Activity

The Global Advocacy on Physical Activity (GAPA) aims at supporting countries’ and NGOs’ efforts to promote physical activity to help reduce the burden of chronic diseases.

The Global Alliance for the Prevention of Obesity and Related Chronic Diseases

This alliance was established between five nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), among them the World Heart Federation, that were concerned with chronic diseases and formally linked to the WHO. The purpose of the coalition is to help translate WHO policy into actions.

The WHO Move for Health Day

The World Heart Federation also supports the Move for Health Day, a WHO initiative that urges WHO member states to celebrate a Move for Health Day each year to promote physical activity as essential for health and well-being. Learn more about Move for Health Day >

Eat for Goals! is about good food, cooking and football. It has been created to encourage young people to be more conscious of living active lifestyles and eating well.  The book’s simple message, “A healthy lifestyle is also based on healthy food”, is conveyed by a multi-ethnic group of 13 internationally renowned male and female football players and their food choices.  Learn more about  Eat for Goals! >

Toronto Charter

The World Heart Federation signed the Toronto Charter, an advocacy tool to support policy promoting physical activity developed by GAPA. Please register your support either as an individual or an organization, and pass it on to others who might be interested! Post it on Facebook, send the link to your listservs, promote it through your website and pass it on to colleagues, friends, and anyone else who could be interested.
