64TH WORLD HEALTH ASSEMBLY

The 64th WHO World Health Assembly (WHA) will be held in Geneva May 16–24.  The WHA is the decision-making body of the WHO and will be attended by delegations from all member states.  The agenda is determined by the WHO Executive Board, this year non-communicable diseases (NCDs) constitute one of the nine topics selected to be discussed.

Utilization of the World Health Assembly for Advocacy

The WHA presents an excellent opportunity to advocate and raise awareness of CVD and the NCD epidemic among member states.  During the World Health Assembly, stakeholders will release a report on the WHO Global Forum on NCDs, previously held in Moscow on 27 April.  In addition to the Assembly itself, there will be many important side events and meetings ongoing in Geneva throughout the week.  The NCD Alliance and The Lancet are hosting a multi-stakeholder discussion on NCDs and Development: Working Together for Integrated Action and a Successful UN Summit.  Participation in the event is open to all, it will be held on Monday, 16 May 2011 at the Intercontinental Hotel.  View the invitation and RSVP today.
