UPDATE ON WHO REGIONAL COMMITTEES

Ensuring the momentum of the NCD movement, the World Heart Federation has played an active role in advocating for action on CVD and NCDs at the World Health Organization's annual regional committee meetings. At the South East Asian Regional Meeting in India, the World Heart Federation was represented by Ms Shalini Bassi of HRIDAY.

Attended by Ministers of Health and senior officials from eleven regional member states, Ms Bassi made a statement calling on countries to push for the attendance of their head of state at the upcoming Summit. Additionally, she highlighted the disparity between the burden of disease and the funding allocated to it.

Following intensive discussions and considering the importance of the subject, it was recommended and endorsed to have a technical discussion on the subject of NCDs prior to the sixty-fifth session of the Regional Committee in 2012.

The World Heart Federation has also had representation at the Pan American Health Organization meeting in Washington, DC and the Eastern Mediterranian Regional Meeting in Cairo and will be represented by CEO Johanna Ralston at the upcoming Western Pacific Regional Meeting in Manila.
