
The Atlas of Heart Disease and Stroke, graphically detailing a global epidemic that is the leading single cause of death worldwide, was launched on 23 September 2004, to coincide with World Heart Day, Sunday 26 September 2004.
The Atlas provides a powerful advocacy tool to stimulate vital action and help promote constructive decision-making by governments, policy-makers, national and international organizations, health professionals, individuals and families everywhere.

The Atlas is published by the World Health Organization (WHO), in conjunction with the USA's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and is strongly supported by nongovernmental organizations including the World Heart Federation.
