WORLD HEART FEDERATION WELCOMES TWO NEW MEMBERS

The World Heart Federation is richer by two new members.

In February 2007, its Board of Directors unanimously voted to accept the Norwegian Heart and Lung Patient Organization as a National Associate Member and the International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy, with legal headquarters in Switzerland, as an International Associate Member.

Not including the two, the World Heart Federation has 195 members – an increase of 16.1 percent from the 168 members it had at the end of 2002.

“We’re very pleased to welcome the Norwegian Heart and Lung Patient Organization and the International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy International,” said World Heart Federation President Shahryar Sheikh. “We’re also pleased to recognize our steady and solid growth, which reflects both the increasing global importance of cardiovascular disease as a public health issue and our members' belief that the World Heart Federation adds value to their work.”

The Norwegian Heart and Lung Patient Organization is “a nationwide interest organization of people with heart and lung disease”, according to its English-language web site.

The International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy International is “devoted to education and medical research in the field of cardiovascular pharmacotherapy and in related areas of clinical cardiology”, according to its web site.
