World Congress of Cardiology 2008 - last call for abstracts

The World Heart Federation has released the preliminary programme of the next World Congress of Cardiology, which will take place 18-21 May 2008 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Abstracts for the congress must be submitted by 15 October 2007.

Countries adopt guidelines for smokefree environment

Second-hand smoke – a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease – was the focus at the recent conference of the parties to the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.

Nishtar provides evidence base for health reforms in Pakistan

The World Heart Federation’s Past Foundations’ Advisory Board Chairperson, Dr Sania Nishtar launched her Gateway Paper 2 in June 2007 in Islamabad with the participation of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Health Minister M. Nasir Khan and Acting World Health Organization Representative Rayana Bouhaka. The paper provides an evidence base to promote health system reform in Pakistan.

World Heart Federation launches improved web site

The World Heart Federation has remodelled its web site and improved on the old by being easier to navigate and presenting more information that is more easily accessible.

World Health Organization remodels Global InfoBase

The World Health Organization has launched an improved version of its Global InfoBase. The Global InfoBase is a data warehouse where information about risk factors for cardiovascular disease and other chronic diseases is collected, stored and displayed.

Helping control rheumatic heart disease in Samoa

The Samoan National Health Service (NHS) is stepping up efforts to prevent heart damage among children and youth; through its programme to control rheumatic heart disease in the South Pacific, the World Heart Federation is providing the NHS with tools and technical support to help.

Global youth network advocates for health

Youth leaders mobilized through the World Heart Federation member network have become active in anti-tobacco advocacy.

Kenyan project prevents rheumatic heart disease

The Kenyan-Heart National Foundation, with the help of the Danish Heart Foundation and the governments of Denmark and Kenya, is working to reduce the scourge of rheumatic heart disease in Kenya.
