“WORK WITH HEART”: USE THE VIDEO TO SPREAD THE MESSAGE - WORLD HEART DAY, 27 SEPTEMBER, 2009
The World Heart Federation has, for the first time, created a video clip to promote this year’s World Heart Day message, which is being disseminated through social media networks such as YouTube and Facebook. Send the video link to your members, employees, friends and families and post on your websites or alternatively download the video, adapt and use it to build awareness for your local country activities. What is the focus of this year’s “Work with Heart” campaign?A workplace that encourages healthy habits can reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke, which is why World Heart Day 2009 is calling on everyone to “Work with Heart” – the central message being that working with a healthy heart brings health, social, economic and psychological benefits for individuals and businesses – irrespective of their work environment or country. Saying no to tobacco, eating a healthy diet and being physically active are important steps towards greater productivity and longer life. Professor Pekka Puska, President of the World Heart Federation stressed “At a time when governments and business leaders are devoting considerable amounts of energy, and billions of dollars, to improve the health of global financial systems, attention should also be directed to the health of the workforce”. He will officially launch World Heart Day, in Abuja, Nigeria where he will join with community leaders and health professionals to discuss the prevention and control of heart disease, stroke and diabetes during a three-day all-Africa conference. Why a video?World Heart Federation Chief Executive Officer, Helen Alderson explained that “the purpose of creating this video is to gain widespread awareness about the World Heart Day message in a fun and entertaining way, which responds in particular to today’s trends toward online communication”. She continued “most of us spend over half our waking hours working and the hope is that this tool helps not only us, but our members, partners and supporters to spread the message that each individual can and should take ‘steps’ to be more heart healthy in the workplace”. The aim is to also reach some new audiences, including younger age groups, through the internet communities and interact more directly with them. What can you do?
