Working Toward Wellness Initiative

WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM'S WORKPLACE WELLNESS INITIATIVE: WORLD HEART FEDERATION ASSUMES PROMINENT ROLE. The World Economic Forum's "Working Toward Wellness" initiative advanced with the holding of a closed high-level workshop at the organization's recent annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland. The World Heart Federation was there and is playing a major leadership role.

Rheumatic Heart Disease in Africa

WORLD HEART FEDERATION TACKLES RHEUMATIC HEART DISEASE IN AFRICA. The World Heart Federation, along with the Pan-African Society of Cardiology, has launched a project to improve control of rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease in Africa. The project will focus on demonstration sites in Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana and South Africa.

Women's Expert Panel

WORLD HEART FEDERATION FORMS WOMEN'S EXPERT PANEL. A Women's Expert Panel has been appointed to advise the Go Red for Women campaign on the scientific and health care-related aspects of this international strategy to reduce cardiovascular disease in women.

Plaza Sésamo Animations

WORLD HEART FEDERATION TEAMS AGAIN WITH PLAZA SESAMO. Through a partnership between the World Heart Federation and Sesame Workshop, the non-profit educational organization behind the beloved children's television show Plaza Sésamo, Colombian children have produced three flash-animation films presenting messages about heart health. The new animations will appear within the new season of Plaza Sésamo which debuts in April 2008.

Action Plans to Prevent Chronic Diseases Health Summit

WHO EXECUTIVE BOARD PASSES UNANIMOUS RESOLUTION URGING ACTION PLAN TO PREVENT CHRONIC DISEASES. The World Health Organization's Executive Board passed a unanimous resolution recommending to the World Health Assembly that it order the preparation of a five-year action plan for the prevention of cardiovascular and other chronic diseases.

Educating Children about Heart Health

SOUTH AFRICA EDUCATES ITS CHILDREN ABOUT HEART HEALTH. The Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa knows the importance of teaching young children about cardiovascular health. Its Children’s Programme educates a generation of South African children about ways to keep their hearts healthy for their entire lives.

World Heart Day 2007

WORLD HEART DAY 2007 TO TOUT TEAM ASPECT OF HEART HEALTH. Although the next World Heart Day is not until Sunday, 30 September, planning for it is already well under way. This year’s theme will be “Healthy Families, Healthy Communities.” This year’s slogan will be “Team Up for Healthy Hearts!”

Prevention and Control Journal

PREVENTION AND CONTROL BEGINS YEAR THREE AMBITIOUS FOR MORE GROWTH. Prevention and Control, the World Heart Federation’s quarterly journal of cardiovascular health, began its third year in January 2007. It did so with expectations of expanding its subscriber base and attracting more manuscript submissions, especially from writers in the low- and middle-income countries that are its principal focus.
