World Heart Federation

SPECIAL EDITION

Welcome to this special issue

The World Heart Federation Board is delighted to support the launch of the new World Heart Federation five-year strategy. This year’s World Congress of Cardiology provides a unique opportunity to present our strategy to you - our members, supporters and partners – and discuss how we can work together to achieve our common goals.

Landmark decision - UN General Assembly convenes a summit on non-communicable diseases

The World Heart Federation is pleased and proud to inform you that the UN General Assembly agreed in May to hold a high-level special meeting of the General Assembly in September 2011 on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

Core elements of the new World Heart Federation Strategy

The World Heart Federation strategy is a result of a thorough review involving members, partners, our Board and the secretariat. We looked again at our vision, mission, and values – all the elements that are important to delivering our strategy and goals as a global health body.

Delivering our programme

To achieve our strategic goals, we have organized our work into four programme areas: awareness raising, advocacy, applied research and sharing science and building capacity.

Member involvement in delivering our strategy

Over the past decade, the World Heart Federation has increased its membership by adding more than 70 new members. Today, we have more than 200 members across the world, each being an organization carrying out valuable work to promote heart health and fight cardiovascular disease globally and nationally.
