The World Heart Federation’s recent World Congress of Cardiology (WCC) held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from 18–21 April, was a huge success and brought together 10,748 participants from more than 130 countries. A total, 178 main sessions and 1,177 abstracts were presented by more than 500 speakers, covering a wide range of topics from prevention to intervention and including sessions and workshops on rheumatic heart disease, tobacco, women & cardiovascular disease and advocacy.
Diverse scientific programme
For the first time, WCC included a one-day ‘course in preventive cardiology’ presented by experts from around the world and directed towards cardiology trainees and medical students. The science programme also included workshops on electrocardiography, echocardiography and cardiac surgery as well as two live transmissions of surgeries occurring at the Dubai Hospital organized by the Emirates Cardiac Society.

World Heart Federation members at the congress
WCC 2012 was a great opportunity for member organizations to network, showcase their activities and share best practice. The “members’ village” section of the exhibition hall was dedicated to World Heart Federation members’ booths, and members were able to increase their exposure by sharing material and presenting their activities at the central World Heart Federation booth. There were also opportunities for members to share knowledge and learn more about projects such as Kids on the Move or tobacco control during workshops and side events organized alongside the congress.
The World Heart Federation thanks its members for their active participation through every stage of the congress as speakers, committee members, session proposers, exhibitors and much more. Your dedication made WCC 2012 a great success!
