World Congress of Cardiology - Barcelona

WORLD CONGRESS OF CARDIOLOGY 2006 BREAKS NEW GROUND. The World Congress of Cardiology in Barcelona set a record for attendance. World Heart Federation President Valentin Fuster used the occasion to urge governments to put cardiovascular disease on the global health agenda.

Clinton Global Initiative

CLINTON PANEL REVEALS NEGLECT OF CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE. The world health community’s strategy of addressing infectious diseases to the near exclusion of cardiovascular and other chronic diseases is self-defeating. That’s because it fails to address the principal causes of mortality, panelists told the Clinton Global Initiative.

WORLD HEART DAY 2006 ASKS: “HOW YOUNG IS YOUR HEART?” World Heart Day 2006 was observed with more than the usual high interest and enthusiasm. Its theme – “How Young is Your Heart?” – emphasized the importance of taking active measures to keep one’s heart fit into old age.

PARTNERSHIP WITH SESAME WORKSHOP TAKES TO AIRWAVES. Plaza Sésamo, the Spanish-language television series for children, has something new: five film segments produced in Colombia. The segments – the fruit of a partnership with the World Heart Federation -- encourage children and their families to adopt heart-healthy habits.

Centre of excellence

WORLD HEART FEDERATION LAUNCHES GLOBAL RHD CENTRE. The World Heart Federation has launched a web-based global centre of excellence for the control of rheumatic heart disease (RHD). Anyone will be able to download the latest guidelines and educational and training materials.

Buenos Aires 2008

NEXT WORLD CONGRESS OF CARDIOLOGY TO BE IN ARGENTINA. The next World Congress of Cardiology will take place 18 to 21 May 2008 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

World Heart Federation appointment

HELEN ALDERSON PROMOTED TO CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER. Helen Alderson has been promoted to the newly-created position of Chief Operating Officer of the World Heart Federation from her previous position of Director of Development.

In memoriam

WORLD HEART FEDERATION MOURNS TREASURER NED HINES. The World Heart Federation mourns the death on 14 August 2006 of its Treasurer, Edward F. "Ned" Hines.
