NCDs highlighted at the World Health Assembly 2010

NCDs were highlighted during many discussions at the World Health Assembly, as follows:

The progress report 2008-2009 on the NCD Global Strategy Action Plan 2008-2013 "Prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases: implementation of the global strategy"was noted.

A new resolution on 'Marketing of foods and non-alcoholic beverages to children' was adopted, endorsing the set of recommendations on the marketing of foods and non-alcoholic beverages included as Annex in the above-mentioned progress report, urging Member States to implement the recommendations and requesting WHO to provide technical support in this area.  To read the resolution, please scroll down to agenda item 11.9

The Global strategy to reduce the harmful use of alcohol was endorsed. To read the amended resolution, scroll down to agenda item 11.10.  

A corresponding note for the media was issued as well as and a separate WHO news release entitled 'Call for action to reduce the harmful use of alcohol".

A WHO news release summarizing the outcomes of the entire WHA, and highlighting the progress achieved in implementing the NCD Global Strategy Action Plan and the discussions on strategies to reduce the harmful use of alcohol and on the set of recommendations on the marketing of foods and non-alcoholic beverages to children was published.
