About the Oxford Health Alliance
Oxford Health Alliance (OXHA) raises awareness about the many chronic diseases that burden the world today. OXHA enables experts and activists from different backgrounds to collaborate in order to reach this goal. Alliance members include leading academics, activists and corporate executives, patients' rights advocates, doctors, nurses and others, all of whom share a sense of urgency about worldwide chronic disease.
World Heart Federation working with OXHA
The World Heart Federation and OXHA share a common vision of alleviating the global health burden of chronic diseases. In November 2006, the World Heart Federation participated in the Oxford Health Alliance summit in Cape Town, South Africa. The launch of the “3Four50” web site occurred during this time. The site’s name refers to the three risk factors (poor diet, lack of exercise and smoking) for the four chronic diseases (cardiovascular disease, some cancers, chronic respiratory disease and diabetes) that are estimated to cause 50% of deaths over the next two decades.
