RHD at The Long Tail of Global Health Equity Conference

Thanks to Partners in Health and excellent talks by Jonathan Carapetis, Bongani Mayosi, Ana Mocumbi, Joseph Mucumbitsi and others, RHD got excellent visibility at the Long Tail of Global Health Equity conference organized at Harvard earlier this month. The meeting was sponsored by Medtronic Foundation, which has a strong commitment to helping eliminate rheumatic fever and reduce the burden of rheumatic heart disease.

World Heart Federation took advantage of the concentration of RHD experts there to have a meeting to see how to move forward at a global level to tackle RHD. We can share those meeting notes soon, but the main conclusion is that the current global advocacy campaign led by the NCDAlliance in the run-up to next year’s UN High-level meeting offers us a unique opportunity to build governments’ and funders’ commitment to invest in tackling the problem, and we need to get involved in it to anchor the place of RHD and other NCDs that target the world’s poorest populations in the asks made of governments that attend the High-level meeting.
