The Parliament of the Republika Srpska marked World Heart Day on 28 September with a signing ceremony of the European Heart Health Charter. Among the signatories were the republic’s president, president of the Parliament and the ministers of health, education and family and sports. Other signatories included representatives of the republic’s cardiology society and the Foundation of Health and Heart. In addition, the Foundation of Health and Heart organised an educational campaign that included publication of a special magazine about cardiovascular health, seminars, lectures and a public announcement about Europe-wide prevention programmes.
Partnership for Public Health organized World Heart Day activities in Sarajevo with the cooperation of the Association of Cardiologists of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Federal Ministry of Health, Federal Institute of Public Health, Sarajevo Healthy City project, General Hospital Sarajevo and the Center for Heart. A bench with promotional materials was placed in the main Sarajevo pedestrian street. 12 volunteers distributed leaflets to inhabitants of Sarajevo for 4 hours. 400 heart-shaped balloons were handed out to children. Four volunteer doctors gave out free advice on heart problems or concerns. The event was covered by all major television and radio media. Over 7000 people received leaflets.
