World heart Day 2007 was celebrated in Nepal with the objective to raise public awareness against increasing trend of heart diseases. Nepal Heart Net - a working network of 19 heart-related organizations - was the organizer of the main activities in Kathmandu, Nepal. Nepal Heart Foundation, with its 12 branch offices in 12 districts of Nepal, celebrated World Heart Day throughout the whole of Nepal. The Minister of Health and other health department authorities also actively participated in the ceremony. The following were the main activities and programs:
- Half day symposium organised by Nepal Heart Net and coordinated by the Nepal Heart Foundation. Chief guest was the Minister of Health. Papers were presented by Dr.P.R.Regmi and Dr.M.B.KC on strategies for heart disease prevention and the status of CVD in Nepal respectively.
- Rally with an elephant at the head followed by the deputy minister of health, then participants from several social organisations, schools, clubs, health institutions and NGOs. Around 5000 people participated in the rally.
- Heart disease detection camps in several districts
- Screening of students in several schools
- TV programs, radio programs. newspaper and journal articles
- Publication and distribution of posters, pamphlets and bulletins
