The Colombian Society of Cardiology organized its World Heart Day event in Cali on September 21-22. On Saturday, September 21, the Society held a scientific meeting on cardiovascular health issues. An event aimed at the general public was held on Sunday, September 22, and consisted of a walk/run for cardiac rehabilitation patients, art contest for children and photography contest for youth based on themes related to cardiovascular disease prevention.
World Heart Day was celebrated at Bogotá’s Virgilio Barco Public Library with a party for children. The party was organised by Sesame Workshop’s Plaza Sésamo, which uses the popularity of the popular children’s television show to encourage Spanish-speaking children in the Americas, and their families, to adopt such healthy heart habits as physical activity and healthy eating. There were special appearances by the beloved Muppet characters Lola and Elmo, previews of live-action films that were produced in Colombia for airing on Plaza Sésamo and a jump rope contest. World Heart Federation CEO Janet Voûte participated in the Colombian World Heart Day celebration to mark the World Heart Federation’s partnership in the initiative. Representatives of the Colombian Society of Cardiology also participated.
