Mexican Social Security Institute and Monterrey City Council
In Monterrey, Mexico, World Heart Day was celebrated with free health checks, counselling and group physical exercises under the theme “United for a Healthy Heart”. The goal of the checks was to raise awareness of the importance of prevention of cardiovascular disease through the adoption of healthy lifestyles and the reduction of coronary risk factors. Approximately 1,000 people were tested for high blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose as well as for body-mass index. The activities were co-sponsored by the Cardiology Hospital at the Mexican Social Security Institute and the Monterrey city council.
