CPR training conducted at the WHF headquarters by the American Heart Association (AHA)

29 Oct 2018

World Heart Federation (WHF) Strategic member partner American Heart Association (AHA) conducted a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training for the WHF team on October 22.  We were delighted and thankful to receive such life-saving education from the world leader in CPR training.

Some important points mentioned were the following:

  • Cardiac arrest – an electrical malfunction in the heart that causes an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia) and disrupts the flow of blood to the brain, lungs and other organs – is a leading cause of death.
  • When a person has a cardiac arrest, survival depends on immediately receiving CPR from someone nearby. According to the AHA, about 90 percent of people who suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrests die. CPR, especially if performed immediately, can double or triple a cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival.
  • AHA offers courses in CPR in more than 80 countries like the one that WHF received. Find a training near you: https://international.heart.org/en/our-courses
  • Take a Minute to Save a Life! Watch the 60-second demonstration video on Hands-Only CPR at heart.org/handsonlycpr and share it with the important people in your life. Hands-Only CPR has been shown to be as effective as conventional CPR for cardiac arrest at home, at work or in public.

We recommend that you take these points into account and watch the demonstration video, as well as request a course suited to your needs, since this one act can actually save lives!  Thank you once again to the amazing AHA team, Marida, Marco and Glenn.
